The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Sunday, July 27, 2025, officially swore in Hon. Abdul-Lateef Ladega as the newly elected Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, alongside 56 other chairmen and vice-chairmen across the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) of the state.
The ceremony, held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium in Alausa, marked the beginning of a new chapter in grassroots governance. Governor Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to local development and tasked the new council helmsmen with the urgent responsibility of selfless leadership, inclusiveness, and sustainable community impact.
“You are closest to the people. Your role is critical in ensuring that the impact of government is felt directly at the grassroots. I charge you all to prioritize the needs of your constituents, engage with your communities, and deliver results that truly reflect the spirit of democracy,” Sanwo-Olu said.
Speaking shortly after his inauguration, Hon. Abdul-Lateef Ladega pledged to lead with integrity, transparency, and accountability, assuring the good people of Ikorodu of a new era of purposeful governance.
“It’s about the people and our communities,” Ladega declared. “We are taking Ikorodu to greater heights. This is not just a mandate—it’s a responsibility to restore pride to our local government and deliver the real dividends of democracy.”
He emphasized plans to embark on wide-ranging development projects—from infrastructure to education, health care, youth empowerment, and enhanced security—aimed at uplifting every community within Ikorodu.
“Our vision is clear: to redirect Ikorodu to the path of progressive governance. We will run an open, inclusive administration where every ward and every voice counts,” he added.
Residents, stakeholders, and political observers have expressed confidence in Ladega’s leadership, describing his emergence as a hopeful sign for the future of Ikorodu.
As the newly inaugurated councils begin their tenure, all eyes are on the local leaders to actualize the promise of grassroots transformation championed by Governor Sanwo-Olu.
