In a ceremonious display of democracy in action, Ijede Local Council Development Area (LCDA) officially inaugurated its 6th Legislative Assembly on Thursday, July 31, 2025, marking a renewed commitment to responsive leadership and grassroots development.
The event, held at the Council’s Legislative Chamber, was presided over by the Executive Chairman, Hon. Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba, and attended by a vibrant mix of political leaders, traditional rulers, party stakeholders, and residents—all gathered to witness this pivotal moment in the LCDA’s governance journey.
Declaring the assembly open, Hon. Gbadebo-Alogba emphasized the crucial role of legislative-executive collaboration in delivering impactful governance. She reaffirmed her administration’s dedication to transparent, inclusive, and development-driven leadership.
“This day is a testament to our shared resolve to deepen democracy at the grassroots. I urge every elected councillor to lead with integrity, serve with diligence, and legislate with the people in mind,” she stated.
“Working together—legislature and executive—we can build a council that reflects the dreams and needs of every resident of Ijede.”
As part of the proceedings, the newly sworn-in councillors took their oath of office and subsequently elected their principal officers. The leadership of the 6th Legislative Assembly was officially constituted as follows:
Hon. Basirat Kehinde (Ward A) – Leader of the House
Hon. Mustapha Agbabiaka (Ward B) – Majority Leader
Hon. Saka Nurudeen (Ward C) – Deputy Leader
Hon. Temilade Akinyemi (Ward D) – Chief Whip
In her acceptance remarks, Hon. Basirat Kehinde, the new Leader of the House, expressed gratitude to her colleagues and the ruling party for the trust and opportunity to serve.
“We stand united in our mission to enact progressive by-laws and policies that will uplift the socio-economic landscape of Ijede. Our doors will remain open, and our hands will be steady on the wheel of meaningful development.”
She reiterated the legislature’s readiness to work hand-in-hand with the executive to ensure that every decision and law passed reflects the genuine aspirations of the people.
The inauguration comes at a critical juncture in Ijede’s developmental agenda, as the council accelerates efforts in infrastructure upgrade, youth empowerment, healthcare access, environmental protection, and social welfare initiatives. With a freshly empowered legislative arm now in place, the synergy between both arms of government is expected to enhance policy implementation and foster community-driven progress.
As the 6th Legislative Assembly gets underway, the people of Ijede LCDA look forward to a new season of accountable leadership, transformative lawmaking, and bold steps toward building a better future for all.
