In Honour of a Legend: Ikorodu Celebrates a Life of Service and Impact as Kings, Lawmakers, Administrators, and Sports Icons Converge
Ikorodu witnessed an outpouring of love, emotions, and celebration of life as children, family members, and friends staged a befitting burial for Late Alhaji Saheed Kolawole Akinsanya, fondly called Baba Pep.
The burial ceremony, held on Saturday, January 23, 2025, at the prestigious Musical Village Hall, attracted an impressive crowd of dignitaries, both home and abroad. The venue overflowed with guests, turning the occasion into a remarkable gathering of the “who is who” in society.
The family of the deceased — led by Mrs. Akinsanya and the children — welcomed guests warmly with delicious meals, assorted drinks, and unmatched hospitality, ensuring everyone felt the depth of their gratitude.

Music added more color to the event as Fuji maestro Alhaji Ramoni Akanni thrilled attendees with live performance, creating a blend of joy and nostalgia.
Beyond the entertainment, the day was about celebrating the impactful journey of Baba Pep. Until his passing on Sunday, August 19, 2024, he was a respected police officer, sports administrator, and community builder. His leadership roles included President of Grassroots Sports Development Forum (GSDF), Vice Chairman of Ikorodu Divisional Football Association (IDFA), former Team Manager of Pepsi Academy, Founder of Greater Tomorrow, and Coordinator of Safety First Initiative.
The caliber of attendees — monarchs, legislators, council chairmen, community leaders, and sports personalities — was proof of the enduring legacy he left behind. Truly, Baba Pep’s life was one of service, leadership, and unforgettable impact.
