The much-anticipated Ladegboye Market has officially been launched by Alhaji Adamu, the Seriki of Ladegboye, bringing with it new opportunities for traders and residents in the area.
Speaking with QuickGist Media at the inauguration, Alhaji Adamu confirmed that over 1,000 shops have already been allocated and occupied, excluding open spaces and other trading areas. He assured that more allocations will be made as additional traders come forward. However, he emphasized that shop spaces are strictly for active business owners:
“The space is not guaranteed for people who don’t have anything to sell. We want a vibrant market, not empty shops,” he said.
The Seriki further highlighted that security personnel have been deployed to safeguard lives and property within the market. He also noted that the prices of goods are cheaper compared to neighboring markets, as most of the products are sourced directly from the North. In fact, he stressed that prices are even lower than those at the popular Mile 12 International Market in Lagos.
In terms of infrastructure, he disclosed that the market is equipped with clean and standard toilets to ensure proper hygiene. He also appealed to Hon. Babajimi Adegoke Benson (MHR) for support in providing solar power to enhance operations and security within the market.
During the launch, QuickGist Media also spoke with traders and buyers. Alhaji Audu, an onion supplier, revealed that he brought a trailer-load of onions to the market, offering them at prices cheaper than Mile 12, with strong patronage already recorded.
Shoppers also expressed satisfaction with the new market. One buyer noted that the affordability of goods is a welcome relief, urging residents of Ladegboye and its environs to patronize the traders.
Similarly, Mr. Tony, a resident of Ladegboye, described the market as a major boost to the community, while a CDA member commended the development, calling it “a big relief” for residents who previously had to travel long distances for affordable goods.
With the official launch of Ladegboye Market, the community now looks forward to a vibrant commercial hub that will not only ease shopping but also stimulate local economic growth.
