On 31st August 2025, J & K Humanity Initiatives hosted a one-day seminar themed “Save a Girl Today” at CCC Fountain of Life Cathedral, Orisun Iseye Parish, Igbeilara, Igbogbo, Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The convener, Mrs. Yakubu, gave the welcome address, expressing gratitude to participants and urging collective efforts in empowering the girl child. This was followed by words of exhortation from Superior Evangelist Taiwo Ogunbiyi, Shepherd of the church, who blessed the initiative and encouraged girls to live purposeful lives.
Empowering the Girl Child
The keynote lecture was delivered by Dr. Stella Falodun, who spoke extensively on the importance of hygiene during puberty. She explained the physical and emotional changes girls undergo, emphasizing that menstruation is natural and should not be a source of fear or shame.
Dr. Falodun also demonstrated the correct use of sanitary pads and warned against unhygienic alternatives like tissue paper. She encouraged young girls to confide in mothers, teachers, and female guardians for support during their transition into womanhood.
Drama & Pad Distribution
A touching drama presentation by the children showcased the challenges of puberty and the importance of saving and supporting the girl child. The performance highlighted real-life issues girls face and the need for collective action.
In addition, sanitary pads were freely distributed to all female participants, ensuring they left with practical resources to apply the lessons learned.
Words of Encouragement
Representing the “Father of the Day,” Omoba Hameed Olalekan Aroyewun, Hon. Princess Adeoba, Councillor of Ward C3, Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA, inspired the girls with her personal story of resilience. Despite financial challenges and family struggles, she persevered in her education and is now excelling academically with a CGPA of 4.78 at the Lagos State University of Science and Technology at age 48.
She encouraged young girls to remain focused, determined, and disciplined, reminding them that “whatever a male can do, a female can do better.” She also urged mothers to support fathers by sharing the responsibility of educating and nurturing children.
Voices of Support
Comrade Onabanjo Adeyinka, Chairman of J & K Humanity Initiatives, explained that the program was created to support and educate female children, shaping them into better individuals for the future.
Superior Evangelist Ogunbiyi applauded the initiative, stressing its role in guiding young girls away from negative influences. He also invited the public to the church’s Annual Harvest on November 2, 2025.
Leader Sanni expressed gratitude for the success of the seminar and encouraged children to put into practice all they had learned, while also extending an invitation to the upcoming harvest.
The convener, Mr and Mrs. Yakubu, in her closing remarks, thanked all participants and partners. She emphasized the importance of continuously training and guiding young girls, promising more impactful programs in the future.
Conclusion
The “Save a Girl Today” seminar was more than a lecture—it was a call to action. From hygiene education and drama to motivational stories of resilience and pad distribution, the event highlighted the collective responsibility of families, communities, and institutions in building confident, empowered young women.
