IBLCDA Strengthens Police–Community Relations

The Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, Ọmọ’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun, today 21st September 2025, initiated a proactive intervention around the recent concerns raised by Youths over the activities of The Nigerian Police tactical teams within the LCDA and its environs by fostering dialogue between the Police and the Youth stakeholders.

The meeting took place at the Ikorodu Divisional Police Headquarters with the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Akinola Clement in attendance who provided a platform for open and frank discussions on issues of police–youth relations, especially in the Ijede, Imota, and Igbe axis where concerns had been raised about the activities of certain tactical teams.

Representatives of the youth stakeholders, conveyed the grievances of the youths regarding harassment and intimidation allegedly meted out to hardworking residents by some operatives. While affirming that the youths are fully in support of the fight against crime, he urged for a more professional and civil approach by the officers in the discharge of their duties.

They further appealed for stronger collaboration between the police and the community, stressing the Chairman’s desire for a refined and professional policing system that guarantees both security and mutual respect for citizens.

In his response, the DPO, CSP Akinola Clement, acknowledged the reports of unprofessional conduct and assured that the leadership of the Force at both divisional and state levels are already taking proactive measures to address these concerns. He disclosed that the Lagos State Commissioner of Police has shown keen interest in ensuring that police–public relations in Ikorodu Division are improved significantly.

Similarly, CSP Amos Ibrahim of the Ijede Police Division pledged responsiveness to public complaints, reaffirming that the era of brutality, extortion, and intimidation must give way to civil policing that protects lives and property.

After extensive deliberations, the following resolutions were adopted:

The proposed youth protest is suspended until further notice.
All cases of misconduct by officers should be promptly reported through direct channels provided by the police leadership.
Stronger communication lines between the police and community leaders will be sustained to prevent future breakdowns in trust.
A larger stakeholders’ meeting will be convened to consolidate on the gains of this dialogue.

Chairman Aroyewun, while appreciating the Nigerian Police Force for their responsiveness, also commended the leadership of the Igbogbo Youth Forum (IYF), the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Igbogbo/Biayeku LCDA Branch, and the vibrant youths of Igbogbo/Baiyeku for their maturity, peaceful disposition, and constructive engagement.

He further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to constant consultation, proactive interventions, and fostering a cordial relationship between security agencies and the public, stressing that only through partnership can the community remain safe, peaceful, and prosperous.

The Divisional Police Officer, CSP Akinola Clement, commended the Chairman for his proactiveness and constant consultation on matters of public safety. He noted that the Chairman’s timely engagement with stakeholders has played a crucial role in preventing a breakdown of law and order, fostering mutual understanding between the police and the youths, and setting the stage for a more coordinated approach to security management in Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA.
