The All Progressives Congress (APC) Ikorodu Central has continued to show strong leadership at the grassroots level, as its Chairman, Hon. Waheed Animashaun, reaffirmed the party’s dedication to youth engagement, voter education, and ongoing empowerment initiatives aimed at improving lives across the division.
Speaking during the APC Monthly General Meeting held at the Ikorodu Local Government Secretariat, Hon. Animashaun — who serves as the APC Ikorodu Central Party Chairman — explained that the gathering forms part of the party’s consistent effort to maintain internal communication, strengthen unity, and ensure that members remain informed and mobilized.
“We are holding our APC monthly general meeting for the local government today. By tomorrow, we’ll have our board meeting. On Wednesday and Thursday, we hold the general meeting, and by Friday, the ward meetings take place across the local government,” he said.
Mobilizing Youth and Correcting Voter Data
Highlighting one of the key agenda items, Hon. Animashaun emphasized the importance of ongoing voter registration and revalidation under the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise organized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“The main message today is about educating our people on the PVC registration. We are mobilizing our youths and all members who have been transferred or relocated to come and register or update their records. Those who lost their cards or made mistakes in their details should come for correction ahead of 2027,” he stated.
He also noted that many residents have made unintentional errors during registration — such as submitting incomplete or incorrect personal details — and the local APC office has been working closely with INEC to help them rectify these issues.
“We’ve discovered some mistakes, and we’ve been calling people back to this office to help them register properly. If your name is already in the system, all you need is a transfer — your card will come out. What matters now is ensuring our youths, especially those who just turned 18, go out to register,” he added.
Educating Young Nigerians on Renewed Hope Initiatives
The APC Ikorodu Central Chairman also touched on the Federal Government’s efforts under President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in empowering youths through education and opportunities like the new student loan scheme.
“Many young people are not aware of the student loan policy, especially in the South. That’s why we are educating them across wards — encouraging them to apply and continue their education without fear. Enlightenment is key,” Hon. Animashaun explained.
Monitoring Grassroots Empowerment for Accountability
Speaking about Prince Ladega’s Mega Empowerment Programme, Hon. Animashaun noted that while the initiative has positively impacted lives, the party is ensuring accountability and responsible use of distributed materials.
“We have told the beneficiaries not to sell the items they received. That is why we asked them to pay a sum of ₦2,000 per week for 57 weeks — to keep them committed and accountable,” he explained.
He added that a monitoring committee has been established to visit shops and workplaces to ensure that all items are being properly used.
“We visit their shops weekly. If someone is not using the materials well or defaults in payment, the committee will follow up immediately. We can’t achieve 100% perfection, but we are making sure resources reach genuine beneficiaries,” he said.
He also acknowledged the ongoing efforts of the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Prince S. A. Ladega, commending his achievements within the first 100 days in office.
“Within his first 100 days, Chairman Ladega has done several empowerment programs, provided educational forms and coaching support for over 300 students, and distributed food and financial aid to residents. Road projects are also ongoing, with about five nearing completion,” he noted.
Message to Ikorodu Residents
As the local government continues its political and development activities, Hon. Waheed Animashaun, APC Ikorodu Central Chairman, urged residents to remain patient and supportive of the administration’s efforts, assuring them that the dividends of democracy will reach everyone.
“We are just starting. Our Secondary Chairman, Prince Ladega, is committed to doing more. The recent mega rally is only the beginning. Everyone will enjoy the benefits of democracy,” he assured.
He concluded by expressing goodwill to the traditional institution, particularly the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, praying for continued progress and unity in the division.
“I wish His Royal Majesty, the Ayangburen, more years of fruitful reign. We are all working together for Ikorodu’s success,” Hon. Animashaun concluded.
