In a heartwarming display of leadership and community care, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu West LCDA, Hon. (Otunba) Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju (SKO) (FCA, FCTI), transformed the Council Secretariat into a hub of hope on 18th December 2025.
The festive occasion saw the distribution of 5000 bags of rice to residents, ensuring that families across Ikorodu West LCDA could enjoy a joyful Christmas. Thousands of people, including elderly men and women, youths, and vulnerable families, gathered to receive their packages, creating an atmosphere of excitement, gratitude, and celebration.
Among the beneficiaries were Mrs. Bola Aloa from Asolo and Mr. Lawrence from Ipakodo, who shared their heartfelt thanks for the support.
“I am truly grateful to Chairman SKO. This gesture has lifted a huge burden off my shoulders. My family can now celebrate Christmas without worry,” said Mrs. Bola Aloa.
“This is a blessing. I want to sincerely thank Chairman SKO for thinking of people like us during the festive season. We really appreciate it,” added Mr. Lawrence.
Food for the People, Joy for the Season
SKO emphasized that this outreach was made possible by the financial autonomy now enjoyed by Local Governments, a landmark reform championed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He explained that the autonomy empowers local leaders to directly impact the lives of their communities, making governance more effective and meaningful.
He also told the crowd that the rice packages should be considered a special Christmas gift from the President, highlighting the synergy between federal vision and local action. “With the support of the State Government under Governor H.E. Olusola Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the President, we are able to reach the people where it matters most,” SKO said.
More Than Just Food
This initiative went beyond feeding homes—it was about uplifting spirits and reinforcing community bonds. The smiles, prayers, and gratitude of beneficiaries reflected the deep impact of the programme. For residents like Mrs. Bola Aloa and Mr. Lawrence, the gesture not only ensured a Christmas meal but also renewed hope and confidence in local leadership.
A Christmas to Remember
As the 5000 rice bags were handed out with dignity and care, one message rang clear: in Ikorodu West, no one is left behind. Through the vision of SKO and the support of both the Lagos State Government and the President, the LCDA has set a shining example of compassionate governance, ensuring that the spirit of Christmas reaches every household.
