New Year Address by the Executive Chairman of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, Omo’ba Hammed Olalekan Aroyewun

Dear People and Residents of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area,

Happy new year! I wish you a peaceful and prosperous 2026.

As much as today is a day of celebration, it is important we take time to reflect on 2025 and set our focus on a potentially more rewarding 2026.
The year 2025 tested our resilience, but it also revealed our strength as a people. Together, we navigated challenges, recorded meaningful progress, and reaffirmed our shared belief that governance must serve the people with sincerity and compassion. I thank you for your trust, cooperation, and unwavering support.
Since assuming office in July 2025, our administration has been driven by a clear conviction: that governance must be purposeful, people-focused, and rooted in integrity.
Though our journey is still young, together we have laid firm foundations for sustainable progress across our Local Council.
In just 5 months, we have recorded meaningful strides in critical sectors of our local governance. We strengthened primary healthcare delivery through upgrades at two key primary health centers, supported free medical outreach programmes, and deepened immunisation efforts to protect public health. In education, we rehabilitated school infrastructure, initiated the establishment of a brand new primary school in our LCDA, promoted academic excellence through initiatives such as the Spelling Bee Competition, and reaffirmed our commitment to quality learning environments for our children.
We also prioritised community infrastructure, with the rehabilitation of key roads, strategic drainage interventions to reduce flooding, and ongoing projects aimed at improving mobility and environmental health. Our administration has invested in youth empowerment through mentorship, skills development, and engagement platforms that inspire confidence and prepare young people for the future.
Our huge investment and participation in cultural events of our communities have shown us to be a peace- and fun-loving people. We are very proud of the visits and attention gained from guests and visitors as these attested to how welcoming we all are and to the grassroot tourism we can provide.
In the spirit of compassion and shared prosperity, we supported workers, retirees, and vulnerable households through targeted welfare initiatives, including the Oúnjẹ HOA Food and Cash Transfer Palliative Programme and end-of-year support for retired public servants and Council workers. These actions reflect our belief that governance must not only build structures but also touch lives.
All these actions have been guided by our GLORY Agenda, which remains the compass for our administration.
In 2026, the combination of your invaluable inputs and the GLORY Agenda will continue to guide our approach. And the vision is collective prosperity.
We will remain committed to delivering Good governance and implement important green initiatives. As we ensure transparency and fiscal responsibility through giving public accounts, we will introduce IBLCDA Beautification Initiative (IBI) for environmental improvement and sustainability. Connected initiatives and policies that place public interest above all else will also be implemented.
For sustained benefits from quality Learning, we will continue to invest in basic education, capacity building, and skills acquisition, ensuring that our people, especially our youths, are equipped to compete and succeed in a rapidly changing world. In 2026, work on the proposed Zumratul Islamiyyah Primary School, Igbogbo will gather momentum and we will begin to design another new primary school in Ibeshe. To galvanise learning, we will introduce Study before Socials and Read a Book programmes in our primary schools as we will expand investment in existing extra-curricular activities in our schools.
To advance our vision on the Optimal wellness of our people, we will deepen healthcare reforms, expand access to quality primary care, and promote preventive health initiatives that support a healthier and more productive population. At least two of our primary health care centres will be rehabilitated. We also plan to follow up with existing collaboration and establish new partnerships for facilitating new health facilities into our Council.
Our commitment to Roads and other infrastructure will be sustained. In addition to delivering the ongoing rehabilitation of the Oliwo Amoju Road as soon as possible, we will rehabilitate more roads, expand drainage networks, upgrade public facilities, and ensure that infrastructure development is equitable across all wards. All arrangements are being finalised to commence the grading of untarred roads which have been damaged by erosion in our communities.
Through Youth and sports development, we will expand opportunities for empowerment, entrepreneurship, recreation, capacity building and leadership development. Please, rest assured that 2026 will see us roll out economic empowerment for our youths including artisans and women. A framework is also being developed to establish a sport development structure for the council – the emerging Adeboruwa Sports Club – will see IBLCDA coming into a strategic partnership with private investors and the investing public to build a transformative sporting environment for the Council. This potential structure and our expected gradual investment in primary school sports will advance sports development in our Council.
We are indebted to the Federal Government of Nigeria for their investment in our Council through the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. We appreciate the completed first phase and the ongoing second phase intervention on Agunfoye Road, Igbogbo, as facilitated by distinguished Senator Adetokunbo Abiru. Welfare support, economic empowerment provided and benefits from the SAIL offering have been massive and we are grateful.
Similarly, we are profoundly grateful to the facilitation of numerous projects by our super Federal Rep, Hon Babajimi Benson (JB). The recently commissioned Smart Police Office, Ẹlẹ́pẹ̀, Igbogbo facilitated by JB continues to be appreciated by all and sundry. Among many other important projects facilitated by JB are the ongoing Offin/Oreta Road, Oluodo Road, Igbogbo, Selewu Road, Igbogbo, and the Ilemere/Oshorun Road, Ibeshe which are extremely significant to the economic development of our Council. Through i-Care, the welfare support and economic empowerment offerings provided have been exceptional. We remain grateful as a Council.
We are equally appreciative of the Lagos State Government for their noticeable actions on the Igbogbo – Baiyeku Road and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Road. With the strategic push championed by leaders like Hon Aro Moshood Abiodun (AMA), we hope that significant progress will be made on these road infrastructures in 2026. The LASG and Hon AMA have made other commendable investments in our socioeconomic affairs.
As we appreciate the Federal and Lagos State Governments, our eminent federal and state legislators, and all our ever supportive community & political leaders for their leadership and investment in infrastructure, welfare, security and peace in our LCDA, we call for more. We also reach out to selfless individuals, NGOs and private entities to continue to partner with us in improving the socioeconomic landscape of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA.
It is our strong belief that, with your support, we will consolidate on our existing gains, accelerate delivery of more public goods, and deepen trust between government and the people. I assure you of my continued commitment to serve with humility, diligence, and unwavering dedication.
As we embrace 2026, I urge all residents to remain law-abiding, united, and actively involved in community development. Let us appreciate that progress is a collective responsibility, and let us unite to build the IBLCDA that works for everyone.
