Ikorodu North, WaterAid Deliver Solar Water Projects to Boost Community Health
Access to clean water has taken a major leap forward in Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area, as newly installed solar-powered water facilities are now serving multiple communities.
The initiative, executed through a collaboration between Ikorodu North LCDA and WaterAid, spans Arobiona, Ayegbami Irepodun (Isiu), Agbede Olosugbo, and Farm Settlement Primary School in Odogunyan.
Speaking during the commissioning, Executive Chairman, , described the project as a practical and lasting solution to water scarcity in the area.
He emphasized that the use of solar-powered systems guarantees sustainability, reduced operational costs, and a steady supply of clean water for residents.
According to representatives of WaterAid, each facility is designed with a 16,000-litre capacity, ensuring access to safe drinking water while promoting proper hygiene and sanitation practices across the communities.
Residents and community stakeholders were also encouraged to take responsibility for maintaining the facilities to ensure long-term benefits.
The Vice Chairman, , described the development as a significant step toward improving the standard of living within the LCDA.
Similarly, the Eweye of Isiu, , highlighted the importance of water as a fundamental necessity of life, while commending both the council and WaterAid for the impactful intervention.
School authorities also welcomed the project, noting that access to clean water is critical for students’ health, sanitation, and overall learning environment.

For parents at Farm Settlement Primary School, the new water facility is more than infrastructure—it is a source of comfort and assurance.
Mrs. Olawale Mariam, a parent, expressed her gratitude:
“Before now, we were always worried about the kind of water our children had access to in school. Sometimes, they had to manage. But now, there is a big difference. We feel more at ease knowing they have clean water.”
She added:
“This will help the children stay healthy and concentrate better in class. It’s a big relief for us as parents.”
Another parent echoed similar sentiments, describing the project as timely and impactful:
“This is something every school should have. Clean water will reduce sickness and improve the children’s wellbeing.”
