In a renewed push for inclusive governance, the League of Women Voters of Nigeria (NILOWV), Lagos Chapter, Kosofe Constituency, has intensified its advocacy for the passage of the Special Seats for Women Bill. The group’s peaceful demonstration underscores a growing demand for increased female representation in Nigeria’s political landscape, aiming to ensure that women’s voices are not only heard but also reflected in decision-making processes nationwide.
The advocacy, led by the convener, Abiodun Oshiga, brought together members of the League in a peaceful and organized campaign within the Kosofe Constituency.
While presenting a formal document in support of the Special Seats for Women Bill, Oshiga emphasized that the initiative is rooted in the urgent need to amplify the voices of Nigerian women voters, particularly in Lagos State, and to secure equitable representation at all levels of governance.
She noted that the advocacy is part of a broader movement to promote gender balance in political participation, stressing that sustainable development cannot be achieved without the active inclusion of women in leadership. The group reiterated that the proposed bill would serve as a strategic step toward correcting long-standing gender disparities in Nigeria’s political system.
During the event, the League also took time to express gratitude to key supporters of the cause.
Special appreciation was extended to the Chairperson of NILOWV Lagos Chapter, Hon Adetola Adunni Abubakar, and the Vice Chairperson,Mrs Asemota Lauretta, for their unwavering support and commitment to advancing women’s political inclusion.
The peaceful advocacy not only highlighted the determination of women in Kosofe Constituency but also reinforced a collective call for legislative action that will ensure Nigerian women have a stronger presence and influence in governance across the nation.
