The Ayangburen of Ikorodu Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, Adegorushen V, has publicly reaffirmed his loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and declared total support for the emergence of Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, as the party’s preferred choice in the 2027 Lagos gubernatorial race.
The royal father made this known in a public statement following reactions trailing a recent interview and meeting involving former APC gubernatorial aspirant, Samuel Ajose, who has now withdrawn from the race.
Oba Shotobi explained that receiving Ajose was done in good faith and strictly in the interest of the ruling party, stressing that he would not have entertained the aspirant if he was not a member of the APC.
According to the monarch, his political loyalty and that of Ikorodu Division to the progressive family have never been in doubt, dating back to the days of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) and continuing through the formation and dominance of the APC in Lagos State.
The Ayangburen recalled his active role in major moments within the party, including accompanying Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to Abuja during his nomination process and moving the motion for the endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Lagos APC stakeholders’ meeting held at Eko Hotel, Victoria Island.
He emphasized that the APC structure and mandate built across Lagos State remain strong and intact, adding that Ikorodu Division stands firmly behind the party’s consensus direction.
“We in Ikorodu Division are in total support of the nomination and eventual victory of the APC consensus candidate in the forthcoming primaries in person of His Excellency Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat as the next Governor of Lagos State,” the monarch stated.
Oba Shotobi further called on Lagosians across all divisions — from Ikorodu to Epe, Badagry, Ikeja, and Lagos Island — to rally behind Dr. Hamzat ahead of the APC primaries.
Describing Hamzat as an experienced administrator who understands the workings of Lagos State Government, the royal father expressed confidence in his capacity to move Lagos to greater heights.
The statement is widely seen as a rejoining and clarification following speculations generated by the monarch’s earlier interaction with Samuel Ajose before his withdrawal from the gubernatorial contest.
“IGBEGA IPINLE EKO, AJUMOSE NI,” the monarch concluded.
