As political activities begin to shape discussions ahead of the Lagos State House of Assembly election, many residents across Epe Constituency II are reflecting on leaders whose impact can still be seen years after leaving office.
One name that continues to dominate conversations within Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA and Eredo LCDA is Hon. Segun Adetola, popularly known as “Segun Three.”
Hon. Segun Adetola, who served as Executive Chairman of Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA between October 2008 and October 2014, is widely remembered for what many describe as a golden era of grassroots development, infrastructural growth, and people-oriented governance.
Today, as he seeks to represent Epe Constituency II at the Lagos State House of Assembly, many residents believe his years of administrative experience and visible achievements have positioned him as a credible and tested leader capable of delivering quality representation for both Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA and Eredo LCDA.
A Record of Performance Beyond Allocation
One of the strongest arguments often made by supporters of Hon. Segun Adetola is that his administration achieved remarkable developmental milestones despite operating with far smaller allocations compared to what many local governments receive today.
Yet, within six years in office, his administration executed projects that touched nearly every sector of community life — education, healthcare, security, employment, infrastructure, rural electrification, environmental sanitation, and youth empowerment.
For many residents, this demonstrated not just leadership, but prudent management of public resources and a genuine commitment to grassroots development.
Massive Investments in Education
During his tenure, education received significant attention through the construction and rehabilitation of school facilities across the LCDA.
His administration constructed a modern six-classroom block with a head teacher’s office, toilets, borehole, water tank, and generator at Anglican Primary School, Museju-Mutakun.
Additional classroom blocks were also built at Anglican Primary School, Ajebo, and UPE Primary School, Iganke.
Schools such as Anglican Primary School Sekungba and RCM Primary School Itoikin benefited from reconstruction projects that included administrative blocks, dining halls, toilets, boreholes, and generators.
Beyond infrastructure, educational support materials including exercise books, desks, chairs, benches, iron cabinets, and waste bins were distributed to schools throughout the LCDA.
The administration also distributed free GCE forms to 150 secondary school students and sponsored three students for an international art exchange programme in South Africa in 2009.
Improving Security and Community Safety
Security also witnessed significant improvement during the Segun Three administration.
.The Agbowa Police Post was reconstructed under the administration of Hon. Segun Adetola and, due to the massive improvements and enhanced operational capacity, it was subsequently upgraded into a full divisional police headquarters, significantly strengthening security operations within the area. The Ejinrin Police Post was also reconstructed to improve policing capacity, enhance response time, and reinforce community safety across the LCDA.
To further support security agencies and improve surveillance across communities, the administration provided four Hilux patrol vehicles for effective patrol operations throughout the LCDA.
In addition, Hon. Segun Adetola established a local community security initiative known as “Gbalule,” providing patrol vehicles and security equipment to support grassroots security efforts.
Job Creation and Youth Empowerment
The administration created employment opportunities for residents through direct recruitment and labor-based community projects.
More than 200 junior cadre staff were employed within the council system, while local artisans and technicians were prioritized for council contracts and direct labour projects.
In another major intervention, 250 good people of Ikosi Ejirin LCDA were engaged for drainage evacuation and environmental sanitation projects across the LCDA, creating jobs while improving the environment.
Strengthening Healthcare Services
Healthcare delivery also improved significantly during the administration.
Five Primary Health Care Centres located in Itoikin, Orugbo, Ado Ikosi, Otta Ikosi, and Sala were reconstructed and equipped with boreholes and standby generators.
The administration regularly distributed free medicines to health centres and actively promoted polio immunization campaigns for children between one day and five years old.
An anti-fake medicine campaign was also launched to educate residents on the dangers of counterfeit drugs and encourage the use of properly equipped Primary Health Care Centres.
Infrastructure, Water Supply, and Rural Electrification
Access to clean water and improved infrastructure formed a major part of the administration’s development agenda.
Nineteen boreholes with water tanks and standby generators were constructed across communities within the LCDA.
Several drainage projects were executed along strategic roads including Olofin Ajaye Road, Itoikin-Ijebu Ode Road, Orugbo-Iddo, Agric Road Itoikin, Epe Road in Itoikin, Ikosi-Agbowa Road, and Adeeso-Owu Ikosi Road.
To improve electricity supply in rural communities, the administration purchased three transformers and implemented electrification projects aimed at connecting underserved communities to the national grid.
A Leadership Experience Many Believe Is Needed at the Assembly
For many political observers and community stakeholders across Epe Constituency II — which comprises Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA and Eredo LCDA — the conversation around Hon. Segun Adetola is largely centered on experience, performance, and grassroots understanding.
Supporters believe that his years as council chairman provided him with firsthand knowledge of the challenges facing local communities, ranging from infrastructure deficits to youth unemployment and rural development needs.
They argue that if such achievements were possible at the local government level with limited resources, greater impact could be achieved through effective representation at the Lagos State House of Assembly.
As political conversations continue across Eredo LCDA and Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA, many residents see Hon. Segun Adetola not just as a politician seeking office, but as a leader whose previous record in public service continues to speak for itself.
