LAGOS, NIGERIA – July 11, 2026 – Comrade Damilare Kuti has been elected as the new National President of the National Union of Lagos State Students (NULASS), promising to foster unity, transparency, accountability, and inclusive leadership across the Union.
Speaking shortly after his emergence, Kuti expressed gratitude to Almighty God, delegates, stakeholders, past leaders, and members of the Union for the confidence reposed in him through the democratic process.
The newly elected President described his victory as a collective achievement for all Lagos State students, stressing that the outcome of the election was not the triumph of an individual or a particular group but a victory for the entire NULASS family.
He extended an olive branch to fellow contestants and their supporters, urging them to put the election behind them and work together in the interest of the Union.
“There is no winner or loser in the NULASS family. We all contested because we desired the progress of our Union. The election is over; now is the time to work together,” Kuti said.
He assured members that his administration would be guided by the principles of transparency, accountability, inclusiveness, and strict adherence to the Union’s Constitution.
According to him, his leadership will prioritise students’ welfare, leadership development, institutional engagement, capacity building, and the protection of the interests of Lagos State students across the country.
Kuti also commended the National Electoral Committee, security agencies, election observers, and other stakeholders for ensuring a peaceful and credible electoral process, noting that their commitment had strengthened the Union’s democratic tradition.
Calling for reconciliation among members, the NULASS President urged students to replace division with unity, bitterness with reconciliation, and competition with collaboration, emphasizing that the Union’s collective strength would always outweigh individual differences.
He reaffirmed his commitment to serving every member without discrimination or bias, pledging to remain accessible, accountable, and focused on delivering meaningful progress for the National Union of Lagos State Students.
Kuti concluded by thanking members of the Union for the opportunity to serve, expressing optimism that, through collective effort, NULASS would become a stronger, more united, and impactful organisation.
