The SRI Foundation, founded by Hon. Salau Rukayat Ibukun Ajibike, Secretary to the Local Government of Ikorodu West LCDA, has held the fifth edition of its annual Girl Child Day Celebration at Government Senior Model College, Owutu, Ikorodu, on Monday, October 12, 2026.
The event, themed “End Child Marriage and Invest in Girls’ Rights,” brought together over 300 female students for an engagement focused on education, personal development and the protection of girls’ rights.
The choice of venue held special significance for Hon. Ajibike, as Government Senior Model College is her alma mater. Her return to the school provided an opportunity to share her experiences and encourage students to pursue their ambitions with determination.
Addressing the students, Hon. Ajibike emphasised the importance of hard work, discipline, good character and taking their education seriously. She encouraged the girls to believe in their abilities, noting that success depends on individual commitment and effort rather than gender.
As part of the celebration, Hon. Ajibike distributed packs of sanitary pads to the participating students, providing practical support for their menstrual hygiene needs and reinforcing the importance of addressing issues that affect girls’ well-being.
Now in its fifth edition, the SRI Foundation’s annual Girl Child Day Celebration continues to provide a platform for promoting girls’ education, raising awareness about child marriage and encouraging investment in the rights and future of young girls.
The initiative reflects the foundation’s commitment to supporting the development and empowerment of girls within the Ikorodu West community.
