It was a powerful three-day experience of learning, bonding, and talent celebration as the annual convention of the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) came to a vibrant close in Lagos.
Theme“Unlocking POWA Potential and Transformative Leadership,” this year’s gathering brought together members from all 17 POWA zones, with a focus on empowerment, leadership, and self-expression.
Mrs. Elizabeth Egbetokun, the National President of POWA and wife of the Inspector General of Police, led the event with warmth and purpose. At the closing ceremony, she commended members for their active participation and the success of the convention.
“These three days have shown the strength, potential, and creativity embedded in POWA. The energy, the unity, and the talents revealed have been truly inspiring,” she said.
The final day featured a colourful mix of activities—from a lively convention dinner to a show-stopping talent showcase that had members expressing themselves through traditional dance, spoken word, fashion, music, and more. The event served as both a moment of celebration and a stage for hidden stars to shine.
Beyond entertainment, the convention was packed with strategic workshops and wellness initiatives geared towards enhancing the physical, mental, and economic well-being of police officers’ families.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, represented by Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, lauded the leadership of Mrs. Egbetokun and the impact of the gathering.
“This wasn’t just a social event—it was a powerful tool for development. You’ve proven that women can lead, inspire, and drive progress at every level,” the governor’s rep noted.
He urged participants to take the lessons learned back home and continue driving community transformation in their various states.
Lagos State’s commitment to gender equality was also highlighted. Sanwo-Olu proudly recalled the state’s historic win as Nigeria’s first recipient of the prestigious United Nations HeForShe Award, recognizing male champions of women’s empowerment.
As the curtains fell on the 2025 POWA Convention, one thing was clear—this wasn’t just a gathering; it was a movement of purpose, pride, and powerful women.
