The Chairman of Igboju Market, Alhaji Bello Saleh, has called on the Government, the traditional ruler, and the good people of Ikorodu to intervene and support the market community against intruders who are threatening its peace and stability.
Speaking during a press conference held at the market, Alhaji Bello Saleh explained that the market has enjoyed over 15 years of peace and progress, with 99% of the traders being Hausa, who have conducted their businesses without suspicion or trouble.
He revealed that the problems began when Mr. Alatishe and a man identified as Baale came into the market, insisting that “Hausa cannot control a market in Yorubaland.” According to him, efforts were made to explain the history of the market — founded by a Hausa trader and peacefully operated for years — but the intruders refused to listen.
The chairman narrated that on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, Mr. Alatishe, Baale, and one Hausa elder allegedly stormed the market with over 100 hoodlums, causing chaos and injuries among traders.
“We don’t drag land with anybody. We only came here to do our business. For over 15 years, we have rented this place and paid our dues regularly without owing a dime. Suddenly, they came with a different story just to disrupt our peace,” — Alhaji Bello Saleh, Chairman, Igboju Market.
After the press conference, the chairman took journalists around the market to show ongoing activities, stressing that the traders are peace-loving people. He appealed directly to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Senator Adetokunbo Abiru, Hon. Babajimi Benson (MHR), Hon. Gbolahan Ogunleye Adetokunbo (Lagos State House of Assembly), Prince Abdul-Lateef Ladega (Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government), and HRM Oba Engr. AbdulKabir Adewale Shotobi to come to their rescue.
In addition, Alhaji Bello Saleh specifically appealed to Hon. Babajimi Adegoke Benson (MHR) to support Igboju Market with solar-powered streetlights to further boost security in the area, just as he has done for other markets in Ikorodu.
He further emphasized that all traders in the market are verified residents with proper identities, adding that no stranger is allowed to operate without proper checks. He also highlighted the market’s cleanliness and security measures.

He revealed that the Sarkin Hausa of Ikorodu Kingdom and the land-owning family have reached an agreement that all market payments will now be made directly to the Sarkin Hausa, who will then remit to the family — a move designed to prevent further disputes.
