President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has stated that the narrative of Nigeria’s political journey would have remained incomplete had he not won the 2023 presidential election.
The President made this known on Sunday at the 8th Day Fidau prayer held in honour of the late Awujale of Ijebuland, His Royal Majesty, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.
“Our national history would have been incomplete—carefully and richly—if I had failed in the last election,” Tinubu declared.
He praised the late monarch as a pillar of wisdom, courage, and an unwavering voice for democracy and justice, particularly during the June 12 democratic struggle.
Reflecting on his journey to the presidency, Tinubu recounted a personal moment with the revered monarch before the 2023 general elections:
“He gave me his blessings and said, ‘You will win that election, and you will win one more time. Go ahead.’”
The President described Oba Adetona as an uncommon traditional ruler whose guidance and integrity shaped many political destinies in Nigeria.
The Fidau ceremony attracted dignitaries from across the country, including political leaders, royal fathers, clerics, and thousands of sympathisers who came to honour the late monarch’s impactful legacy.
