Ikorodu, Lagos – August 8, 2025
The 10th coronation anniversary of His Royal Majesty, Oba Engr. (Dr.) AbdulKabir Adewale Shotobi, the Ayangburen of Ikorodu Kingdom, continued with a spiritually uplifting Thanksgiving Juma’at Service held at the Ikorodu Central Mosque.
The call to prayer commenced at exactly 1:32 p.m., immediately after the arrival of the Grand Chief Imam of Ikorodu Division, Fadilat Sheikh Seifudeen Ayinla Ademoritan Oloorini. The event brought together prominent traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community dignitaries, including:
- HRM Oba Elias Omoloro Adedapo Ijelu, Paramount Ruler of Otta Kingdom in Ikosi Ejirin LCDA
- HRM Oba Gbadewolu, Oba of Araromi Kingdom
- HRM Oba Babatunde Balogun, Elejirin of Ejirin Kingdom
- HRM Oba Barr. AbdulSemiu Orimadegun Kasali, Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom
- Council of Baales and Chiefs from across Ikorodu Division
Sermon of Gratitude and Reflection
In his sermon, the Grand Chief Imam expressed deep gratitude to Allah for granting Oba Shotobi a decade of peaceful and impactful reign, noting that the number 10 holds special significance in Islam—marking key moments such as the beginning and end of Ramadan.
He reminded the congregation that not all communities are blessed with rulers whose reigns last this long, emphasizing that Oba Shotobi’s leadership is a divine choice rather than a product of worldly qualifications.
“Kabiyesi may not be the most educated, most influential, or most successful man, yet Almighty Allah chose him. Today, he returns to thank Allah for these 10 years. May Allah grant him good health, long life, and a more successful reign,” the Imam prayed.
He urged all to show gratitude to Allah, help one another, remain content with what they have, and live with the fear of God. He also advised that life on earth is temporary, hence everyone should strive to do good and seek paradise (Aljana).
Prayers, Quran Recitation, and Thanksgiving
After the Friday prayers, the Thanksgiving Juma’at programme commenced with an opening prayer by the Grand Chief Imam, followed by a Quran recitation by Imam Abdulzeez Omotayo.
The thanksgiving session featured the presence of Oba Babatunde Balogun, Elejirin of Ejirin Kingdom, and other royal fathers, all joining in offering praises to Almighty Allah for peace in Ikorodu during Kabiyesi’s reign.
Keynote Address by the Ayangburen
In his keynote address, Oba Shotobi, speaking on behalf of his family, fellow kings, and council members, expressed profound gratitude to Almighty Allah for guiding his reign over the past decade. He also acknowledged the strong relationship between him and the Grand Chief Imam, recalling that his journey as king began in the very same mosque—the first central mosque in Ikorodu.
The monarch used the occasion to call on all Muslims in Ikorodu to participate actively in governance by obtaining their voter’s cards and supporting an indigene of Ikorodu for the governorship race in 2027.
Closing Remarks
The vote of thanks was delivered by Alhaji Wahab Abiodun, Baba Adinni of Ikorodu Central Mosque, who praised the peaceful atmosphere in the kingdom under Oba Shotobi’s reign. The service closed with blessings for continued unity, peace, and progress in Ikorodu.
