Ikorodu, Lagos – August 2025
As part of the ongoing 10th coronation anniversary celebrations of His Royal Majesty, Oba Engr. Dr. AbdulKabir Adewale Shotobi, the Ayangburen of Ikorodu Kingdom, the monarch has made a historic investment in the future of his people—awarding a total of ₦26.25 million in educational and fashion scholarships.
A total of 85 students each received ₦250,000 to support their education, while five promising individuals in the fashion industry were granted ₦1 million each under a special ₦5 million Fashion Scholarship Scheme.
Two Days of Giving
The scholarship disbursement took place in two phases:
Tuesday, August 5, 2025: 55 students awarded ₦250,000 each
Friday, August 8, 2025: 30 students awarded ₦250,000 each

The event began with remarks by Asiwaju of Ibeshe, Kaoli Olusanya, who praised the Ayangburen’s generosity and advised students to remain committed to their studies.
Scholarship Coordination
The programme was coordinated by Professor Fatai Abatan, Dean of Student Affairs, Lagos State University and an indigene of Ikorodu. Prof. Abatan personally handed over the cheques to all beneficiaries during the ceremonies.
Kabiyesi’s Words of Advice
In his address, Oba Shotobi thanked the people of Ikorodu for their unwavering support and called for more sponsors to join the initiative. He announced that the Solomade family had recently added an extra scholarship slot and stressed that the ₦250,000 award is substantial and must be used wisely.
Kabiyesi explained that cheques were written in the students’ names to ensure the money goes directly to their education. He warned beneficiaries not to lend the funds to their parents, emphasising that the purpose is strictly academic.

The monarch also spoke about an interest-free loan scheme for women, starting from ₦50,000 with the possibility of doubling to ₦100,000 upon repayment, and increasing further in stages. However, he lamented that many past beneficiaries failed to repay, leading to a temporary pause in the scheme. He encouraged responsible individuals ready to repay to apply through the proper channels.
Empowering the Next Generation
This gesture during Ayangburen at 10 reflects the monarch’s enduring commitment to education, skills training, and entrepreneurship—laying a solid foundation for the future of Ikorodu Kingdom.
