The ancient Yoruba tradition came alive in grand style as Oba Gbolahan Akanbi Timson, the Jagunmolu of Shomolu-Bariga, led the community in the colorful celebration of Ìṣẹ̀ṣe Day. The event, which attracted dignitaries, traditional leaders, and community members, was marked with prayers, cultural displays, and deep reflection on the importance of Yoruba heritage.
Speaking with QuickGist Media, Alayeluwa Oba Timson highlighted the value of Ìṣẹ̀ṣe as a religion of peace, urging all traditional believers to stay away from trouble and uphold truth. He further encouraged Nigerians to embrace and support Yoruba tradition, stressing that cultural preservation strengthens unity and identity.
The monarch also took the opportunity to pray for the success of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, appreciating his efforts so far and calling on Nigerians to continue supporting his administration for national progress.
Also addressing QuickGist Media, Oluwo Ifakemi Adeshina Bolaji, the Oluwo Ifa of Bariga/Shomolu, described Ìṣẹ̀ṣe as a religion of peace and truth. He emphasized its importance in fostering harmony within communities. Oluwo Adeshina expressed gratitude to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for recognizing Ìṣẹ̀ṣe Day with a public holiday, noting that such recognition strengthens cultural pride. He concluded with heartfelt prayers for peace and stability across Nigeria.
On her part, Princess Adefolakemi Jagunmolu Olaiya, Iyaloja of Adebayo Market, Bariga, praised the significance of Ìṣẹ̀ṣe and encouraged women to support those who wish to embrace the tradition. She prayed for prosperity for market women, the people of Bariga, Lagos, and Nigeria at large.
The celebration was both colorful and elaborate, featuring the presence of several traditional associations, including ATRED Bariga/Simpli Branch led by Oluwo Ifakolade. Traditionalists embarked on a spiritual procession, offering prayers at every street and junction across Bariga and Simpli. The day’s festivities concluded with a lively reception hosted at the palace of Oba Jagunmolu.
The Ìṣẹ̀ṣe Day celebration in Shomolu-Bariga not only showcased the beauty of Yoruba tradition but also reinforced the call for peace, unity, and cultural preservation in Nigeria.
