
Political leaders, traditional rulers, and community stakeholders from Ikorodu Division on Saturday gathered at a unity rally to reaffirm their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing his performance in office as the basis for endorsing him for a second term.
Speakers at the rally described the event as a strong demonstration of unity, political stability, and continued confidence in progressive governance across Ikorodu Division.
Addressing the gathering, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA, who represents Lagos East Senatorial District, said Ikorodu has remained a consistent supporter of progressive politics since the creation of Lagos State. He noted that the division’s endorsement of President Tinubu was rooted in performance, leadership experience, and ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s economy.
According to Abiru, sustained collaboration between the Federal Government and the National Assembly is essential to consolidating economic reforms and ensuring long-term national stability.
Also speaking at the rally, Babajimi Benson, Member of the House of Representatives representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency, described the large turnout as evidence of public confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership. He said the endorsement reflected the belief of the people of Ikorodu that continuity would further accelerate development at the federal, state, and local levels.
Leaders of the All Progressives Congress and members of the Governance Advisory Council from Ikorodu Division, led by Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, reiterated the division’s loyalty to progressive governance since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999. They emphasised that Ikorodu’s political strength extends beyond elections to include grassroots mobilisation, policy advocacy, and community development initiatives aligned with government programmes.
All Executive Chairmen across Ikorodu Division were present at the rally and jointly pledged their support for President Tinubu’s administration, committing to closer collaboration with state and federal authorities to deliver people-centred governance at the grassroots level.
In an exclusive interview with QuickGist, Aarebirin Hon. Dr. Princess Folashade Olabanji Oba, the immediate past Vice Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, said the endorsement of President Tinubu was based on measurable performance and visible reforms. She noted that the people of Ikorodu had carefully assessed the administration’s achievements before taking a collective position.
Princess Olabanji Oba, who is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Association of Local Government Vice Chairmen of Nigeria and founder of the Asiwaju Distinguished Ambassador Movement and Grow Ikorodu initiative, explained that her role at the rally was not as a podium speaker. She confirmed that she did not address the crowd but granted interviews exclusively to QuickGist on the significance of the endorsement

She added that the support from Ikorodu was a reflection of the division’s long-standing culture of political discipline, civic engagement, and commitment to leadership that delivers results.
The rally also attracted several senior government officials, including the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Rural Development, Dr Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, and the Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon Abisola Olusanya. Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly, members of the State Executive Council from the division, youth leaders, religious figures, and community representatives were also in attendance.
Prominent traditional rulers and political figures, including Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun, Asipa Kaoli Olusanya, and other respected leaders from across Ikorodu Division, attended the event, further underscoring the political significance of the endorsement.
