No fewer than 600 market men and women across Ikorodu Division have benefited from a ₦50,000 financial empowerment initiative facilitated by the member representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency, , as part of ongoing efforts to support grassroots traders and strengthen local businesses.
The empowerment programme, held at the Hon. Babajimi Benson Constituency Office in Solebo, Ikorodu, brought together beneficiaries from major markets including Ayangburen and Imota, with each trader receiving direct financial support to boost their trading activities and improve household income.
Speaking on the initiative, the Director-General of , Mayor Deen Sanwo-Ola, urged beneficiaries to channel the funds strictly into their businesses.
He emphasized that the empowerment was designed to strengthen small-scale enterprises and not for immediate personal spending or celebrations.
“This money is meant for your business growth. Use it wisely to increase your capital and improve your trading activities, not for party or non-essential spending,” he advised.
Beneficiaries across the division expressed gratitude for the intervention, describing it as timely amid current economic challenges.

Mrs. Kudirat Oseni, a trader from Ayangburen Market, said the support would help her restock goods and improve sales.
“I really appreciate Hon. Babajimi Benson. This ₦50,000 will help me buy more goods and grow my business. May God bless him for remembering us,” she said.

Mr. Wasiu Lawal from Imota Market also appreciated the gesture, noting that it would ease business pressure.
“Things are difficult in the market, but this support will help me continue my business. We are very grateful,” he said.
