The Executive Chairman of Ikorodu West LCDA, Hon. Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju (FCA), has reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving public education through quality infrastructure as stakeholders gathered for a meeting on the proposed reconstruction of Itowolo Primary School, Majidun.
The stakeholders’ engagement, held at the Ikorodu West LCDA Secretariat Hall, had in attendance education administrators, traditional rulers, community representatives, political office holders, contractors, and residents who discussed the implementation and long-term sustainability of the proposed ultra-modern classroom project.
Addressing participants at the meeting, Hon. Olanrewaju stated that his passion for education stems from his personal experience as a product of public schools. According to him, providing children with a conducive learning environment remains a priority of his administration, stressing that no child deserves to learn under poor conditions.
He assured residents that the council remains focused on delivering modern educational facilities capable of improving learning outcomes and supporting the future of children within the community.
The Education Secretary of Ikorodu LGEA, Alhaji Taiwo Odumbo, commended the council chairman for his prompt response after concerns were raised over the state of the school. He explained that the school management had earlier reported the deteriorating condition of the classrooms, adding that plans are already in place to temporarily relocate pupils to nearby schools including C & S Primary School 1 & 2 and LG Primary School, Majidun, during the construction period.
Also speaking, the Councillor representing Majidun Ward and Deputy Leader of the House, Hon. Batife Daisi, noted that residents had long complained about neglect of the community in the area of infrastructure. He described the classroom project as a major intervention that would positively impact the educational sector within the community.
A community stakeholder, popularly known as Mama Benson, applauded the initiative and urged residents to take collective ownership of the project by ensuring proper monitoring and protection of facilities throughout the construction phase.
Council Manager, Engr. Rotimi Okunowo, assured stakeholders that the project would meet modern construction standards, while engineers would remain on-site to ensure quality supervision from commencement to completion.
Project Engineer, Engr. David Soji Idris of IOK Construction, disclosed that the redevelopment would feature modern facilities, including a playground for pupils. He estimated the completion timeline between 18 and 24 months, subject to weather conditions.
An alumnus of the school, Hon. Muyideen Yusuf, appreciated the chairman for the intervention, describing the project as a significant development for future generations of pupils in the Itowolo community.
The Head Teacher of Itowolo Primary School also expressed gratitude to the council chairman for responding to the challenges facing the school, while appealing for adequate arrangements to ensure effective coordination of pupils and teachers during the relocation period.
