In a renewed effort to strengthen food production, support local farmers and advance the agricultural objectives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the Member representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rep. Babajimi Adegoke Benson, has facilitated the distribution of Federal Government-owned fertilisers to over 500 farmers across Ikorodu Federal Constituency.
The intervention, held today Saturday 1st of August 2026, farmers were brought from the six Local Government and Local Council Development Areas that make up Ikorodu Federal Constituency, with each beneficiary receiving a 50kg bag of fertiliser to support the current farming season and ease the financial burden associated with procuring essential farm inputs.
The fertiliser support programme forms part of the Federal Government’s agricultural intervention under the Renewed Hope Agenda and is being implemented by the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF). The initiative is designed to provide smallholder farmers across the country with essential farm inputs, particularly fertiliser, to boost agricultural productivity, enhance food security, reduce the cost of cultivation and strengthen the nation’s drive towards sustainable agricultural development.
The beneficiaries, who were carefully drawn from farming communities across the constituency, described the initiative as timely, particularly in the face of rising production costs affecting agricultural activities across the country.
Representing Rep. Babajimi Benson at the distribution, the Director-General of Jimi Benson’s iCare Foundation and Executive Assistant to the Governor of Lagos State on the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA), Mayor Deen Sanwoola, said the intervention reflects the lawmaker’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that Federal Government programmes translate into tangible benefits for ordinary citizens.
According to Mayor Sanwoola, agriculture remains one of the most critical sectors for national development, and empowering farmers with essential inputs is one of the surest ways of guaranteeing food security, improving rural livelihoods and strengthening the nation’s economy.
He explained that Rep. Benson remains deliberate about ensuring that Ikorodu Federal Constituency continually benefits from people-centred programmes of the Federal Government.
“This fertiliser distribution is more than an empowerment programme; it is an investment in our farmers, our food security and our collective future. Rep. Babajimi Benson believes that when farmers are supported, families are fed, businesses grow and communities prosper. That is why he remains committed to bringing the dividends of the Renewed Hope Agenda directly to the grassroots,” Mayor Sanwoola stated.
He further urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the fertilisers by applying them to productive farming activities, expressing confidence that the intervention would translate into increased yields and improved incomes for farming households across the constituency.
Speaking with journalists after receiving their fertilisers, one of the beneficiaries expressed profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Rep. Babajimi Benson, describing the intervention as another demonstration that the government is mindful of the challenges confronting farmers.
“We are sincerely grateful to President Tinubu for this thoughtful programme and to Rep. Babajimi Benson for ensuring that farmers in Ikorodu are not left out. Buying fertiliser has become very expensive, so this support will go a long way in helping us improve our harvest,” the beneficiary said.
Another farmer, Vivian Adewole described Rep. Benson as “a representative whose ears and eyes are always close to the ground,” noting that the federal lawmaker has consistently identified the pressing needs of the people and responded with practical interventions that improve lives.
According to the beneficiary, “He understands what the people need at every point in time. Whether it is education, healthcare, food support, youth empowerment or agriculture, Rep. Benson always finds a way to connect the people with opportunities. This is why many of us have continued to believe in the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu because we can see its impact through initiatives like this.”
The beneficiaries also commended the transparent and orderly conduct of the distribution exercise, noting that the selection process reflected fairness and ensured that genuine farmers from different parts of Ikorodu Federal Constituency benefited from the programme.
Many of them offered prayers for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and Rep. Babajimi Benson, while reaffirming their commitment to making productive use of the fertilisers to boost food production and contribute to the nation’s agricultural growth.
The fertiliser distribution adds to the growing list of agricultural and economic empowerment initiatives facilitated by Rep. Babajimi Benson across Ikorodu Federal Constituency, underscoring his sustained commitment to improving livelihoods, strengthening rural development and ensuring that the benefits of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda are felt by communities at the grassroots.
