Princess Samiat Bada Flags Off Two Major Road Projects in Ikosi-Isheri LCDA
Residents of Ikosi-Ketu and Orile-Ketu are set to benefit from improved road infrastructure as the Mayoress of Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Princess Samiat Abolanle Bada, officially flagged off the reconstruction of Owodunni Street and Oluwalogbon Street.
The twin projects mark another milestone in the council’s ongoing drive to upgrade infrastructure and improve the quality of life across communities within Ikosi-Isheri LCDA.
Speaking during the official flag-off ceremonies, Princess Bada said the road projects reflect her administration’s commitment to delivering on its promises of sustainable development and people-focused governance.
According to the Mayoress, the 443.4-metre Owodunni Street in Orile-Ketu and the 766.4-metre Oluwalogbon Street in Ikosi-Ketu will be reconstructed using durable interlocking paving stones. Both roads will also be fitted with solar-powered street lights to improve security, enhance night-time visibility, ease traffic movement, stimulate local businesses, and create a cleaner, more attractive environment.
Princess Bada attributed the council’s increasing capacity to execute developmental projects to the improved financial autonomy of local governments. She praised President **** for increasing allocations to local governments, describing the initiative as a major boost to grassroots governance under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
She also commended **** for ensuring that allocations meant for local governments in Lagos State are released without deductions. According to her, the collaboration between the Federal Government and the Lagos State Government has enabled councils to deliver more impactful projects directly to residents.
Former Executive Secretary of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, Hon. Afolabi Kazeem, described the reconstruction of Owodunni Street as a long-overdue intervention, noting that the road was last constructed more than two decades ago.
He praised Princess Bada for the numerous developmental projects executed across Ward E and the wider Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, while encouraging residents to protect and maintain public infrastructure for future generations.
Community leaders also welcomed the development.
The Chairman of the Owodunni Street Community Development Association (CDA) expressed gratitude to the Mayoress for approving the reconstruction project, describing it as a transformational intervention that will significantly improve the lives of residents.
Similarly, Chief Idris Junaid, the Asoju Oba of Ketu Land, applauded Princess Bada for fulfilling her promise to reconstruct the road. He assured residents that community leaders would continue to educate the public on proper waste disposal and discourage dumping refuse in drainage channels to preserve the new infrastructure.
At the flag-off ceremony for Oluwalogbon Street, the Baale of Asubiaro described the project as the fulfilment of a long-awaited dream for the community. He said the new road would improve mobility, support businesses, and make daily transportation easier for residents and motorists.
Princess Bada called on residents to take ownership of the projects by keeping drainage systems free of waste, protecting the newly installed solar-powered street lights from vandalism, and ensuring the roads remain in good condition.
She reaffirmed that her administration will continue to invest in road construction and other critical infrastructure projects aimed at promoting sustainable grassroots development and improving the standard of living across Ikosi-Isheri LCDA.
