The Rhoda Youth Centre has expanded its education support initiative for pupils in public primary schools across Ikorodu Local Government, providing school uniforms, learning materials and scholarship opportunities to selected beneficiaries.
The intervention covered pupils of Methodist Primary School and other public primary schools in Ikorodu, as well as Igbogbo Methodist Primary School and other schools within the Igbogbo area.
As part of the initiative, two pupils are selected from each participating school to benefit from the scholarship programme. The scholarship is designed to support the selected pupils from Primary One through the completion of their primary school education, providing sustained educational assistance until graduation.
The programme also retains beneficiaries from the previous year, meaning pupils who were selected last year continue to benefit from the scholarship as they progress through their primary education.
Speaking during the programme, the Chairman of Rhoda Youth Centre, Asiwaju Rotimi Erogbogbo, stressed the importance of collective responsibility in providing children with the support and opportunities they need to succeed.
He explained that the Centre’s education-focused interventions, including teachers’ development programmes, scholarships and school support initiatives, are aimed at contributing to the long-term development of children within the community.
According to him, providing pupils with school uniforms and essential learning materials can reduce some of the financial burden on families, boost the children’s confidence and encourage greater participation in academic activities.
Erogbogbo disclosed that the initiative commenced last year with the distribution of school bags, uniforms, socks, exercise books and other educational materials, alongside the scholarship programme.
The 2026 package included exercise books, writing materials, school uniforms, sandals and socks. School bags were not included this year because those distributed during the previous edition were still usable.
He further disclosed plans to extend the intervention to more public primary schools and strengthen the scholarship programme to ensure more children can benefit from sustained educational support.
The Chairman also highlighted an existing intervention to assist one of the beneficiaries with securing placement in a suitable secondary school after completing primary education.
Also speaking, Mrs. Maureen Awulonuh said the programme reflects Rhoda Youth Centre’s commitment to making education more accessible and supporting children who may not have adequate resources.
The event concluded with the presentation of educational materials to beneficiaries, while the continued scholarship support reinforced Rhoda Youth Centre’s commitment to the education, welfare and development of children across Ikorodu Division.
